I have waited 8 months or more for it and finally got it in today. I have been thinking about loading up some cast bullets on the heavy side that are sub sonic. I will get a new bolt rifle for this purpose. The suppressor is good up to 30 cal. The rifle will be a 30,06 (I don’t have one at present) or a 308. I am leaning towards 30,06 because I…[Read more]
I was wondering if anyone has read the; The Practical Guide To Long Range Shooting by Nathan Foster. I like what I read on web page before I send money for a book I would like to get some opinions thanks rrh
My epic-shot was 5 to 7 years ago maybe more. I was deer hunting at the river and in some spots in the river you could take a shot at well over two thousand yards. Knowing my own limitation and armed with a Ruger M77 MKII .270 with a 130 grain bullet (don’t remember the manufacture but I betting Hornady lead tip) and full load of h-4831 (don’t rem…[Read more]

I have finally got the rifle purchased, the scope is a Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25×50 30 mm. I would like for some advice on a one piece pic-rail and rings. I have used ewg aluminum base and swfa rings https://swfa.com/swfa-ss-tac-30mm-1-rings-6.html. I do not want to purchase sub par stuff nor do i wish to over pay. I would like some sug…[Read more]
Thank you for the reply I will take your advice and work my way up. At present I have a heavy barreled 308 win with a swfa 6x. I will work with this rifle first. I will spend some time looking at scopes, and decide upon which reticle. thank you again for taking the time for the reply I found it very informative.
I am going to get a 300 win mag and have been looking at scopes mostly Vortex and Leopold. The rifle will be used for long range target shooting. I hope to become good at a 1000 yards. I would also be using to take out some hogs at long range. I have looked at a lot of scopes online and would like some real world experience on what scope and…[Read more]
I got a bullet recovered tonight shot a doe at about 100 yards, broad side, good hit, it took out most of the pluming out above the heart. She did not go anywhere dropped right where she was. I found the bullet on the opposite side under the skin. The bullets weight was 73.8 grains. Same as before took her with a rock river LAR 8. The load is 4…[Read more]
I have been wanting to get a 300 win mag for a long time and it seems that this itch will not go until I get one. I like the heavy barrels as much as I hate to admit it but I shoot them better. I found the Remington 85508 700 5-R Bolt 300 win mag and it seems like it has what I am looking for heavy barrel at a good price. The rifle will be used f…[Read more]
Last year I was shooting 150 gn sst and I either missed or it ran off no blood. The deer I took I found no blood where I had shot it and there was not pool of blood where I found him. the shot entered behind his right shoulder and ended up some where behind his left ribs, his liver was shredded almost in half. I could not find the jacket or c…[Read more]
I was wondering how many are getting a pass through shot with Hornady sst’s. shot I a deer tonight and the bullet did not exit. The shot was a broad side shot at a 100 yards with a rock river LAR 8. The load is 43.0 grains of h 4895 with a 165 gn hornady sst. I have to give the bullet this the deer did not go more than 10 yards but I was thinking…[Read more]
I pan lubed some bullets yesterday and the lube groves did not get filled in as they should have. So I had thought what would happen if the bullets were warmer, when I pored the lube. I put the bullets in the oven for a few, they were warm enough to handle but not comfortably. The results were great all lube groves full plus some. The lube was…[Read more]
I have not casted any bullets in a while and decided to cast some up today. I got the lee drip o matic going, and was have a hard time getting a good fill with the bottom pour. Frustrated I grabbed the ladle and in no time the fill was much better. I do not cast a high volume so now I am thinking the ladle is the way to go.
I currently hunt with an old Winchester pump action shot gun. I hunt dove and turkey with it, but I am wanting an auto loading shot gun. I have been looking at the Stoeger M 3500 any thoughts or opinions thanks rrh
