Yeah, I would rivet it like the originals were or weld it. I’ve welded one to a milled receiver, but I don’t know how it would hold up on a stamped one. I like the original commie scopes, but most don’t. Make sure to boresight before completely fastening the plate to the side.

If they don’t know, you might politely tell them under the guise of helping them out and not wanting to see them get fined. If they know, then they are pricks and deserve to be turned in. Don’t touch the dogs unless you want to risk getting shot or sued.

You may have issues ever getting cheap mounts to work on an AK. Quick-detach mounts especially. I believe Midwest Industries is currently considered the standard for decent AK mounts. And that plate will have to be absolutely solid. I think you will have a hard time getting that with screws. I also wouldn’t use a heavy scope or load the mount up…[Read more]

Love the nitre bluing on a Ludwig-Lowe. One of the most attractive bolt actions ever because of it. It’s almost a lost art.

Since I use a lot of surplus powders, I’ve pretty much switched to Winchester primers to help avoid inconsistent ignition. It’s not just the power, it’s how they ignite the powder. The Winchesters use aluminum powder to help ignite the powder. I haven’t heard of any others that do, but I haven’t heard much about the specifics of any, which I…[Read more]

I would not have expected this. My load for this cartridge is a case full of WC-872 (right at 100gr if memory serves) and a homemade 270 grain bullet with Winchester primers. I haven’t had problems with inconsistent ignition and was pleasantly surprised to be getting over 2500fps with such a slow powder. That led me to believe this was a very…[Read more]

I never could understand on what they based the assertion that the belt prevents the die from sizing brass right in front of it. Possibly some thousandths, but not much. Are some dies machined with a huge gap in front of the belt? Why is there no version for rimmed cases? Shouldn’t they need it even more? I’ve loaded 300wby pretty hot and never…[Read more]

BPCR shooters know sun angle makes a difference with iron sights. Not so much with a scope other than the sun being an annoyance and hurting your concentration.

I tested 1oz 7.5’s against 3/4in plywood with my Saiga years ago and it blew a single hole out to 11 yards. I’ve blown up varmints at about the same range with the same. No one could survive a blast to the throat at “house range.” Let alone 10.

Probably because the Makarov has a fixed barrel, and probably a better quality barrel.
Never mind, just saw it’s not based on the 1911.

JPHolla replied to the topic What's your favorite lever action and why? in the forum Lever Action rifles 2 years, 9 months ago
Doubles also had two complete mechanisms. If one side broke, the gun would still function. Also, all levers have much less camming power on extraction–even the modern BLR–in case of a stuck case.

Another thing the barrel block does is takes the weight and inherent sideways stress off the action. I’ve been meaning to build one for a while but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

It may foul more, but you can’t get brass too soft. After all, you can shoot lead down a barrel.
