Finally got out to shoot the new toy today. Its fun to shoot as I expected it would be. I ended up with 3 loads that look to have some potential, all at 100 yards.
147g FMJ over 16.0g of W680
135g SMK over 17.0g of H110
155g Sierra Palma Match over 15.0g of H110
I had some 168 SMKs over W680 also but they all shot patterns instead of…[Read more]
So I finished the build this week, havent been out to shoot it yet…..uuuggghhhhh, another week of that dirty 4 letter word before I can go try it out 🙁
I went with an Anderson upper, lower, and 16″ pistol gas 1-8 barrel. I was happy with the Bushnell AR series scope I put on my 22 build, so I picked up the centerfire version in 3-12x…[Read more]
I just had a thought about this. If someone with a CNC wanted to make a few bucks……
I will model one up in Solidworks and If I get a couple at no cost I will provide the cad file to program off of. Start throwing some billet replacement handles out there and have at it. What do you think?
I went out this morning to test the Dasher with cast loads. It was 65 degrees when we got to our shooting hole and quickly went into the high 80’s. The target was 125 yards, no wind. The chronograph was 10-12 feet from the muzzle. I did not weight sort any of the bullets. The chrono numbers are unimpressive to me and I always seem to get a flier…[Read more]
This is a very subjective topic 😉
I will have to agree with others, it depends on what I am doing at the time. For a cast rifle, right now is the 6.5×50 Arisaka, an absolute pleasure to shoot with 14.5g of 2400 under a 266469.
For plinking and just general all around fun, M1 carbine. Havent tried cast in it yet I have taken a few jack rabbits…[Read more]
It’s a Shillen Match Select barrel, 1-8 twist. Which will probably hinder me getting above 25-2600 fps with good results but we will see.
Rifle Basix trigger @ 2 lbs
Burris 6.5 – 20 x 50 mildot scope
Blueprinted 700 action
I did end up finding another handle so I still have a backup for a while. I will have to look into the ram prime setup. Although Dad was never to enthused with the idea so we never did them that way. He didnt believe that you could get a good feel for the way the primer seated with it which I understand.
Oh to have the ability to stop out in the country and throw a few chunks of various hardwoods in the back of the truck 😉
Not out here in AZ lol, closest I get is some white oak up in the high country which is about a 2 hour drive at best for us deprived city folks.
Nice work Tim! That is a beautifull bow. It is an indescribable sence of accomplishment to take game with equipment you made or maintain as a labor of love. I made a fishing pole when I was a kid, took it fishing with grandpa once and I was the only one to catch a fish that trip.
Im just getting back to being able to shoot about a 4″ group at 80 yards (thats all the pins I have), but I certainly cant do it as fast as Lars.
This is by far my proudest moment with a bow, AZ tree rat taken at 20 yards about 4 years ago. He was coming down the back side of the tree at eye level and only gave me the head and…[Read more]
