We are in the process of building in new security and spam protection. We held off on this for as long as possible because we new that the login and registration would need to be completely changed to implement some of the new protection. Also, many other new back end features have been added including a whole new server platform that has the ability to be monitored by the site admins and free 247 server assistance. All of this is supported by a new 3 part fire wall that includes server side and site wide protection. This will cut down on most of the spam, but ultimately is the site owners job to keep up with the spam. Keep in mind that we are doing all of this for free. We have different monthly maintenance packages, that include dealing with spam, and cost for new features including security, but we are doing this because we understated that the transition from basic to custom is a big step. It can also be costly and include a large learning curve for website owners. Now, as a forum user how can we work together to find the problems and fix some of this stuff.
Most of all this new “stuff” has transitioned without any problems, but the last feature, recaptcha being one of the most imported to blocking spam requires a rebuild of the login and registration pages. This will also change the way you login just a bit. It is very important that you fallow all the steps included in the recaptcha or it will not log you in, and if you try more then 5 times you will be unable to login at all for one hour. This is all part of the protection system. The good news is once you are logged in you should not have to keep logging in. Now as of the time of this post every once in about 6 to 7 times we login we have to try a second time, we are working to find the root of this problem and fix it. Other than this the site if working without any other problems from our end so we need your help.
We need to recreate the problem before we can understand, and make a plan to fix it. This means we need more info than just “I can’t login” or “I can’t post a picture”, because we can do all these things from both the computer in multiple browsers, and different phones. Remember we need to recreate your problem most of the time before we can fix it.
Things we need from you:
- Time of the event
- Phone or computer
- If computer, IP address (google: whats my IP)
- Operating System
- Browsers used
- Username and password (No one has access to this. Not even us.)
- Did you clear your browser cashe and cookies or not
- A screen shot of the problem would be very helpful, but we understand not always possible.
- And last but not least– Patience.
Remember we have other jobs, and work for a living too.
