Just got a Rossi R92 in .44Mag with a 16 barrel and big bow lever. An Interarms import with a M042xxx ser. number on it. All blued a dark stock fore & aft. Was wondering what year it was made. The Rossi site lists only new made guns and not older weapons. My search with my smartypants phone came up empty. So if one of ya have a list for ser.# ranges I’d be grateful.
P.S. This stubby little cannon shots great! And is very “Duke like”. Too cool. ….

Felix’s kids gifted me the same rifle sans big loop lever. If your problem exists closer than 75 yards it’s in big trouble!

      Butch
My late rifle is of that number. I would guess that yours predates that 1 by 180,000 and a prefix . The pre-safety rifle is AM007?? I have no idea what this 1is for year but it is much better finished and tighter. Now I’m wondering what the A prefix is a bout .
I guess that makes this 1 about 35,000 before or not with the prefix.

I found this on a Rossi forum .

Interarms is gone. The early 1990s is the correct timeframe. Rossi has been manufacturing the 92 since about 1976. Older Rossi 92s were labeled “Model 65”. They were also called “Puma”, and some had a cat’s head medallion on the left side of the receiver. Legacy Sprots International, LSI, is the “reorganized” Interarms. LSI still calls their 92 a “Puma”. The SRC, quite often, did not always have a saddle ring. Steve Young, of:

…is the Rossi 92 Specialist. He may be able to help with your query. LSI may be worth a try:

      M & M Gunsmithing:

…is THE authorized Rossi repair center. They may be of use to you, too

In other numbers an Inter arms tag will put it at 75- 2001 LSI is 02–08 .
Other names may over lap and be from pre68 up to 78.

Armed with that my 7k SN is likely about 78′ . The prefixes appear to be indicative of intended cal/cartridge AM for 45 ,M for 44 ,k for 38/357 . They probably don’t change the SN sequence and have no meaning for years.

Maybe if we had a known bought it new from several yr we could guess at average us import and SN production and gain an eyeball guess of years .
