Lost my best riding horse and old friend today. She was a thirty year old appaloosa .
I will never have another horse like her in this lifetime.

Too sad to talk about it now.

Understand as I’m from a horse culture. Lost a few over the years. And they are family to those of us that live among them. You have my most sincere sympathy for your loss. Shadow is now legend. ……

Critters tend to get attached to us people . It doesn’t take 30 yr for 1 of them to break your heart running off over some silly damned rainbow bridge to greener pastures …… 7-15 will do just fine ……..

I’m very sorry for your loss. I too grew up with horses, and I’ll never forget either of them. Had a strawberry pony and a quarter horse.
i still think of them every time I pour neatsfoot oil in my hand and work over a piece of leather. Reminds me of pulling the reins through my hands and warming the bit in my hand on a cold day.
A lot of living gets done with a good horse.

      My wife was unconsolably unhappy.
I just had to choke it down .

Thankfully I had my son to help me move it out of the back stall of the barn.

She just got a mild colic on hay and died of old age..

We are careful how we manage our horses and grain.

Thirty years old is old for a horse.

I will get another quarter horse.
One that hasn’t already been redneck bit , so I can train it correctly.

I am old now so I no longer bounce when I fall from a horse.

Thanks for all your support and concern.

That’s a pretty sad tale. I too know how they can become attached.
I lost my mare while on an Elk hunt. Best we could figure she ruptured the uterine artery. Buckets of blood ejected from her vagina until she just laid down to die. Nothing we could do but remove the saddle from her back and leave her for the bears and coyotes!

Really sorry for your loss, WCM. I can certainly relate. Won’t share my loss………………just to say it was traumatic enough to understand yours.
