Got an-mail from F&W on “21 American Appetizers”. Many of the ingredients don’t sound All American, but some do sound tasty.
Maybe you will find the same.
Hogs in a Blanket
I’m still a fan of Pig in a Blanket. These better be really good.
Fried Pickles with Spicy Mayonnaise
In the last couple of years, I’ve come to appreciate fried pickles. But, not many places get it right. I dislike them dripping and grease and the batter falling off. Maybe this recipe will be better. And, spicy mustard for dipping? Beats ranch dressing.
Mini Burgers & Crispy Onion Rings
Do they have mini brioche buns in the grocery store in Ness City, KS? How about Winslow, AZ? I can’t find them in Los Alamos. I may have to improvise.
Pimento Cheese & Bacon Crostini
This ain’t your mamma’s toast.
According to Southern tradition, the hostess at a ladies’ luncheon should serve little meatballs in a chafing dish or on a platter with toothpicks as a satisfying snack for any men in attendance. The recipe here is by Debra Shaw, the cafeteria manager at the Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood.
Every time I try to open this link I get the message “You are not authorized to access this page.” Maybe it is for the best.
Natchitoches-Style Meat Pies
Natchitoches is on my bucket list of places to visit.
Three-Cheese Mini Macs
In addition to sounding tasty, these sound easy!
Fried Okra with Sweet Chile Sauce
I never liked okra until I tasted it fried properly.
Hush Puppies with Green Zebra Tomato
I guess I better plant some of these tomatoes. I didn’t see any at Smith’s Grocery in Los Alamos. Maybe they have them in Dodge City.
