      Dear Santa,

All I want this year is a copy of Eugene Stoner’s gift to the free world. I’ve been pretty good, I haven’t kicked my wife’s three legged dog ever.

I’ll put the fire out in the hearth on the night of the 24th so you can have a cool landing.

One of many details that made getting 1 before now impractical ………. Intended in a completely oxymoron sort of serious way …….I think . I’ve always lived in pretty low crime neighborhood’s so this is a huge leap for me to admit that it only has to stop 1 event once to be priceless squared .

Took my Cowboy .38/55 out to test some loads today.
I discovered after finding it not shooting well, that the modern Lyman #2 tang sight has all kinds of play in it.
It other words the sight is junk.

I have owned original Lyman #2 sights on old Winchester rifles that were good solid sight.
The newly manufactured ones are junk.

I will put the regular barrel sight back on the rifle to at least get a solid sight to test with.

I think the Lyman receiver sights are fine, but my rifle is not drilled and tapped for the receiver sight.

No firearms as gifts for friends or family this year. Not that I don’t want to. Just don’t have the finances right now. But I did buy my son over 1k MegaBloks. Going to drive the wife crazy so it’s a win win 😀

I bought myself 2 Leupold Mk 4 scopes, a 4.5x-14x50mm and a 8.5x-25x50mm, both have the TMR in the first focal plane and 1/10 mil clicks.

I have the 8.5X 25 -50mm with the TMR reticle.
I believe you will like that scope.

Wish I could afford to buy another one, but I don’t really need it yet.

That’s a nice collection of gifts, now all you need is one of those silver, aluminum Christmas trees to put them under.

If nothing else goes wrong with the house/cars I will be looking at one of the new Henry Single shot rifles come Jan.
Most likely in .44 mag. Although it sounds like more calibers are on the way.

Gotta say, I’m pretty excited about the Henry Single Shot. Hoping it’s affordable, but I’m betting its going to be in the $425 range.

I have a nice Mitutoyo 0-1″. There have been occasions where I needed to go beyond 1″ with better accuracy than my calipers. Also, I was being quizzed by the family about I wanted for Christmas. I grew tired of saying that they were all I needed so….

Attached is a photo of one of the rifles I’ve completed for Christmas presents to my children. I did put a Leupold VX R 2-7×33 scope on this one with a Burris mount/rings. Wow. What a nice scope. It has a fine red dot at the intersection of the crosshairs that you can barely see in the attached photo. No, I haven’t fired it. Maybe this afternoon when my son from Chicago is here visiting.

I will have to confess that I bought a 3rd Leupold Mk4 scope, a 8.5X-25X-50mm with the TMR reticle and 1/4″ clicks. On top of that I lucked out getting a used Remington 700 LH in 243 Winchester that is in a McMillan Remington Classic stock with a handrail for $300.00. The stock goes for more then that, now to order a set of bases and mount a scope on it.
