Anyone here reloading and shooting .458 SOCOM with cast bullets?
I’m just getting mine put together, and intend to use some 350 – 370 gr FP GC cast bullets from a Ranch Dog mold and a MiHec mold. Eventually I may try a Ranch Dog 425 gr FP GC.
I have a Tromix upper with carbine length gas system.
If anyone has any words of wisdom, I’m sure I could benefit from them.
I’ll post my progress.

IvI’ been doing a bit of reading on the 450 Bushmaster. Most of what I’ve read is that it works great with jacketed bullets, but there’s mixed reviews on cast.
Part of it seems to be around gas checked or not. With the better results from gas checks.
One guy dug out multiple plain based bullets and most of them had a small notch in the base presumably from the gas port, and thought this was the cause of the poor accuracy.
Other guys have said that they get good results with plain based bullets at lower velocity.
I have read similar threads on the 458 socom
I’m thinking pretty hard about the Ruger AR in 450 Bushmaster.
I don’t have either one, so I have no actual experience, just what I’ve read so far.
I’d be very interested in your results.
