Figured I’d throw this up here, lever guys know 45/70 and all.
      A buddy is getting a custom 45/70 Encore bbl , 26″ I believe !!!
What level loads can this critter take ? Up near #1 loads, or should he keep it modern lever level ?
I know Encore’s are strong, but how strong ?
He’s asking the maker also. lol

The Speer #12 has Contender loads Ruger loads for a dozen or so cartridges .the 4570 shows modern single shots with a 400 gr jacketed sp at 2000 fps over 60 gr of 4895 . Makes me hurt just reading that.

Encore is a larger frame than my Contender so stronger
      – and they make barrels in .416 Rigby!
Which is another large case and pressure is
      47,137 psi

Trap Door load levels are SAAMI MAP of 28,000 cup
The second level of loads are for modern Marlin 1895 lever action rifles. In these loads pressures can run up to 40,000 cup.
Strong bolt action or Single shot rifles that can take pressures running up to 50,000 cup.

If it was my Encore I’d use the Modern Lever action loading information –
350 grain bullet at 1900 fps is plenty for a light single shot rifle or pistol.

I’ve loaded the 450 grain Lee RF up to max lever gun levels with 3031, I broke my Burris scope in the process. I think you’ll give in before the barrel does.

VANN, haha, been there. When I first got my 14 ” 45/70 Contender bbl I had a scope and rings laying around – didn’t even think about rings being aluminum…….. Glad it missed my face when it let go ! My buddy is a young, stout fella, we’ll see what he can take.
