I’m looking to build a 338-06 on a savage action.  Trying to deside weather to us a shilen barrel or possibly using a JES ReBore.  I know shilen is good for 1 moa.  Would like some input on jes barrels.

Thanks in advance for any and all information.

In my opinion, the JES will serve you well. However, Shillen barrels are stress relieved and lapped, whereas JES still has whatever internal stresses that were there on the barrel you send him. His barrels are easily lapped with a few tight fitting patches spiked with 220 grit clover. JES barrels are single point hook cut by hand, and he is very talented.

Typically, when I send him a barrel of good quality (this is like a Howa 1500, or shot out custom barrel, etc etc) I will easily demonstrate groups of less than 1″ for ten shots, and he has not failed to deliver this performance. Just bear in mind that I’m selective about what I send him to work on!

So what should I expect if I sent in a factory savage barrel.

    Good results I would think!!!

I’ve rechambered several Savage factory barrels and they cut very nicely.
