Larry and I went to the Paul Bunyan Range today to test some 22 LR match ammo in our 22 rifles. We had the new Norma match rounds as well as the Norma Tac 22 rounds. I also brought some Army White Box match ammo and some Ely 10X ammo left over from my military rifle team days.

It was all fun and games for a while…

      Then Larry went ballistic and…

… brought out some heavier fire power. As you can see, it was 33 pounds of Teutonic engineering dating to about 1941.

My wife is suggesting that I start hanging out with someone else for a while. πŸ™‚

      Looks like fun.
I have been buying up CCI Standard Velocity and Norma TAC when I can find a sale.
Bullets.com had the best price on Norma TAC Maybe they still do.

WOW Neat Win 52 pre, I have one almost identical and it has a Lyman Targetspot (not Super Targetspot)
AND it likes Federal 719 22 HV Match
I do weigh mine on a digital scale and separate by tenths

Scharfschetze, how did the Norma Match and TAC-22 shoot for you and at what distance?

Thanks Goodsteel. He runs faster and longer and shoots better than I ever did and he’s a perfect fit with the Rangers. It was easy to pass the baton on to him when I pined his airborne wings on and later his Ranger Tab.

This particularly Model 52 was made in 1931. While the action is the first model with the safety on the left rear of the receiver, it does have the Garand designed speed lock. Its stock is well proportioned to feel much like a 1903, M1 Garand or M14 rifle so it’s a perfect rifle to practice with, particularly with its integral fold down aperture sight.

      Love your old 52.
When I shot on the ROTC rifle team I always want a 52D.
      I shot a Remington 40X

Would love to have my old rifle now.

My State Patrol shooting buddy had an old 52 just like yours.
He died and his wife sold all his guns to a gun show dealer.

I like the Norma TAC .For the money it is some of the best target ammo I have shot.

I have a 10/.22 Ruger with a Shilen Target barrel.
It likes CCI Standard Velocity better than any ammo I have tried.

That is a fine looking 52. Good shooting.

I shot a friends Miroku 52B sporter several weeks ago. Beautiful gun and shoots the cheap Fed automatch into less than an inch at 100 yards. I was hooked and went on a search for one. Got a NIB critter. It arrived at my FFL dealer yesterday — not a mark on it and beautiful wood. Sadly it is now in the California jail for 10 days. I have a Weaver T-36 ready to strap on it.

I thank you and you son for your service for our country.

That is a good price. I bought two bricks of it for something like $62.00 each at Cabellas. Remember when we bought bricks for $5 to $6 dollars? Of course we didn’t make as much back then either, so I guess it all comes out in the wash.

That’s funny you should mention that in that way .
1972 my Dad was a journeyman pipefitter making $4.86/hr which was about 1k 22LR .
2000 I was making $16.?? and that would almost buy 1k of which ever brand was on sale.
2016 $ 21/hr 500 box of Agulia at the Big Reno Show was $46 .
Just to check my math the journeyman pipefitter is now drawing about $29/hr , but after taxes it’s going to cost 4 hr to buy 1000 at what looks to be an actual discount gunshow price so really in the last 16 yr the price of 22 LR has gone up 4-5x .
$0.7 looks pretty good for 222 over a dime for 22………
